Chosen Solution
So I just installed a new SSD to replace my old HDD. I cloned the drive before installing it. After installation, I hooked everything back up to test before adding the adhesive. However, now when I boot I get a no symbol (circle with a line through it). The symbol is on the screen for like 15 seconds or longer and there is an occasional glitch on the symbol with the apple logo. I know it’s weird. After that, it boots up with the clone. I restarted and it repeated I ran disk utility / first aid and it did not detect any issues. I shut down for several minutes and reboot and it is still happening.
Cloning is very passé for boot drives! Keep in mind Apple upgraded their file system from HFS+ to APFS and cloning apps don’t work with APFS!! You’ll need to get either an external case to hold your old HDD or use a SATA to USB adapter cable like this one [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-108-1] Then you can transfer your stuff over cleanly. But thats Step-2! Step-1 - Is restarting your system deleting the partitions and reformatting the drive using Internet recovery using the Command (⌘)-R startup keys Reference: Mac startup key combinations Then after the OS is installed, if you wish to upgrade it do it at this point. Step-2 - Launch Migration Assistant following this guide How to transfer data to your new Mac from your old Mac Here your data source will be your old HDD. When its done your system is back to what it was just now running on a SSD!
