Hi, I bought cheap an old MBA 11’. The laptop was shutting down randomly. I cleaned up the dust from the fan and the board, removed the heatsink to change the thermal paste (or the leftover gunk…). I monitor the temperature constantly and the shutdown are not related to overheating. I had shutdowns at 50°C. Thinking it could be power related (the battery has 995 cycles) I tried to pull the battery from the device and ran it without, shutdown again. Did I miss something? Or is it simply a dead logic board that I won’t be able to repair.
This sounds like a VRM issue on the logic board. The logic board will need repairs or replacement. Try running the onboard diagnostics. Press the D key when you restart your system. Reference: Mac startup key combinations. Let us know what error code you get.
