Hello, Last night, I turned off my MBP. This morning at around 7am, I was awoken to it booting up, and shortly after turning off again. This happened at random intervals many times, before I put it in another room. When I went to boot it up a few hours later, there was no response; completely dead. Has anybody else experienced, this almost poltergeist type activity? Thanks in advance, Andrew.

Sounds like you left your system in sleep mode, and it woke up to check for updates or other maintenance task but the battery was not able to support the added load so it rebooted. The other possibility is you got infected by malware/spyware which was trying to phone home with your information! So you’ll need to assume both issues are present! First to fix your system given the systems age I suspect the battery is just worn-out.
