2013 Macbook Pro, 16 gig memory, 256 SSD Hard Drive. It worked fine for several months. Then randomly started going to a completely black screen. The keyboard still lit up, and the Apple logo on the cover is still lit. Have checked screen saver, auto screen power off, reset SMC and PRAM, ran fan diagnostics, checked for overheated using temp diagnostics, have completely erased and re-installed Catalina. After a hard shutdown, the screen comes back on and may go a few minutes or a few hours before doing it again. If the computer is turned off for a full day, then it will not happen for several hours, before starting the same inconsistent black screen. It does not seem to be related to any specific software.
The Battery is getting up there! Just shy of 600 cycles of the 1000 lifespan. Even still its not at a point of failing. This appears to be a deeper logic board issue with one of the current sense lines. It will need to be looked at by someone with the skills to debug the logic board. Or, your other option is replace the logic board.
