Chosen Solution

I have an Elitebook 8460p with Intel Core i5-2540m. It currently has 2x 4GB PC3-10600s. I wonder if I would face a problem if I upgrade it to 2x8GB Samsung PC3-12800s. According to the specs sheet,

Standard: DDR3 PC3-10600 SDRAM (1333 MHz) Two SODIMM slots supporting dual-channel memory 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB SODIMMs Maximum: Ungradable to 16GB with 8GB SODIMMs in slots 1 and 2 Dual-channel: Maximized dual-channel performance requires SODIMMs of the same size and speed in both memory slots.   I am also planning to upgrade the CPU to Intel Core i7-2860qm which supports PC3-12800s in the future, so that’s why I am considering PC3-12800s as an option. Please help.

Hi @cedric1689 , According to this major supplier the laptop supports DDR3 PC3-12800 (DDR3L-1600) SODIMM memory. Near the top of the same page it states that the upgrades are guaranteed to be compatible The “s” in PC3-12800s is used by some manufacturers to denote that it is 204 pin SODIMM (laptop) memory.
