LG 55" LCD tv purchased in 12/2012. Over the past few weeks while watching the TV all of a sudden there is a flash of light like someone took a photo. Then on the right hand side of the TV appears to be a translucent black band of smoke.

Hope the photos help. Thank you, Bill Herold

Hi, Does the black band go away after rebooting? was the flash just once? Because if the flash was just once and the band stays it is possible the problem was caused by a faulty SMPS ( power supply that regulates the electric power in the tv) or a faulty LCD panel. If i was you i would open the back panel and measure out the SMPS. if faulty replace it and check the problem is away. But there is still a possibility the spot is burned in.. in that case you have to replace the panel… I hope it will help. Kind regards, kevin

@herold1313 that looks like a failed backlight LED. You will have to take a look at the panel itself and see what the model number is. A lot of times you can get LED repair kits for those. Update (07/25/2016) @herold1313 open up your Tv and take a look at the LED Board

and take some good high res pictures. Post those with your question. It could be that this where the error originates since it drives your panels power. The LED stripsfor your panel by itself are available at places like this.
