Chosen Solution

So I was given an Xbox one from a friend who thought his console was dead and went and picked a new one up but he wanted a hard drive and the CD out of the drive . Later we found that that the original power brick was getting no power and I have a console without drive and hdd. My question is will the console work without an optical drive? And, or can I buy an optical drive and put it in it without hassle of software issues? Thank you for your time!

Replacement drive will not work, each drive is permanently paired to the console. Same goes for the HDD, but you somehow can back up all files and copy onto a new drive.

Eh…maybe. I’m more of a PlayStation kind of guy, but if I had to say, that’s a maybe. You might get away with turning on the X-Box One without the Disk Drive, but the starting prerequisites might trigger an error while starting up. I’d argue that it shouldn’t, but today’s proprietary hardware has proven me wrong at least once. I think that you should look at the model of the X-Box and find a Disk Drive replacement for that exact model. That might be your safest bet. The same goes for the Hard Drive, if you haven’t already replaced it. You’ll likely need a new X-Box operating system, if you haven’t already. I’m not sure how much goes into it, but that’s the list going through my mind. You’d have to try powering it up and see if it does anything. If it does, you should be fine. If it doesn’t, find replacement parts. Either way, its cheaper than buying one new.
