Hello I have the following MacBook Pro model (MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)// 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5// 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3// Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 MB) and suddenly the screen started flickering with purple horizontal lines. The lines do not appear on an external monitor that is connected to the computer, they only appear on the Mac screen. I have tried rebooting with the following options and it doesn’t work. Any ideas?
- Option, Command, P, and R
- Control, left Option (Alt), right Shift
- Shift, left Control, left Option (Alt)
Due to the fact your only facing the issue on the MacBook screen itself, it would seem you have physical damage. It’s either gonna be the LCD cable, a board Issue or god forbid a damaged screen :(
Sadly, your internal display assembly will likely need to be replaced. These newer Mac’s tend to run hot and as Apple moved the T-CON board to be within the uppercase it tend to cook (pass me the BBQ sauce!)
Dust buildup in the fan blades and heatsink fins tend to be the largest issue. Using the system on ones bed or other cloth surface which blocked the air flow is another. Lastly, running the system hard without pushing the fans to the max using a good thermal monitoring app like TG Pro. See if cleaning the dust out and pushing the fan helps. At least it can buy you some time.
